Launderette: From Folding Clothes to Folding Napkins

Launderette opened in 2015, driven by a vision from 2 chefs to create a space where quality food could be enjoyed somewhere unpretentious & community-centered: So, naturally, they chose to refurbish an old laundromat into the fabulous, chic lil spot it is now. 🧺

It’s also where I chose when my besties demanded we get just a quick dinner on my actual birthday.

Launderette opened in 2015, the same year I moved to Austin, by chefs Rene Ortiz & Laura Sawicki.

Prior to opening the restaurant, Chef Rene Ortiz worked at Fonda San Miguel, Sway, & La Condesa. Laura Sawicki, armed with experience from Uchi, joined Ortiz as co-founder and leads the dessert program at Launderette.

The menu claims to be New American, but it does focus a bit on Mediterranean and then combines global flavors. I was delightfully surprised at how many veggie-focused dishes were featured, & I know my body was happy after.

Apparently the bday cake ice cream sandwich is famous for them!

& yes: we have happy hour!!
