20 Friends, One Big Table, and a Chef Who Believed in Us: The Nasha Story

Our most iconic Supper Club meetup happened at Nasha, an unforgettable evening that marked a new chapter for Eating Out Austin.

What started as a casual dinner with friends turned into a potential partnership that I could never have anticipated — and it all began with the power of community.

The Supper Club Night at Nasha That Set the Stage for Something Bigger

The evening kicked off just like any other Supper Club night. I had scoped out a spot for us at Nasha, prepared my little sign, and was ready for a night of delicious Indian food. My friends showed up in their usual numbers, and there was something different about the atmosphere. More than 20 people had arrived, lots of new faces — all ready to explore the flavors of Nasha.

The energy was high, and as the plates started to arrive at our table, conversations were buzzing. It wasn’t long before Mahesh, the owner of Nasha, noticed our large group and came over to introduce himself. My friends, ever the supportive hype squad, didn’t hold back. They started telling Mahesh all about Supper Club and Eating Out Austin, explaining how we loved featuring local spots and bringing adventurous eaters together.

Mahesh smiled and nodded, clearly intrigued. He offered us $100 bar tab to say thank you for the business. I asked if I could get his phone number instead.

The Meeting with Mahesh: The Packet, The Offer, and My Reality Check

Fast forward to a week later, and I was walking into Nasha again, but this time for a very different reason. Mahesh had agreed to a meeting to discuss a potential collaboration. I wanted to be ready for anything, so I came prepared with a full packet of my ideas for an event that would celebrate the best of Nasha in a truly unique way. I called it “Dish & Dish” — a one-night-only tasting menu where guests could try a little bit of everything and hear the story of each dish from Mahesh himself.

To my surprise, the meeting took an unexpected turn. Mahesh barely even looked at my packet before he made an offer that blew me away: “Why don’t we make this a regular thing? We could do it once a month.”

I told Mahesh I love the enthusiasm, but I need to take baby steps. Let’s try this out once first, see how it goes. Mahesh agreed, and just like that, our first-ever “Dish & Dish” tasting event was set in motion. All I had to do was sell the tickets.

Designing the Dream Event: A Tasting Menu Worth Talking About

Once Mahesh gave the green light, it was time for me to make this event everything I had dreamed of. I wanted people to experience the full spectrum of Nasha’s flavors, and I wanted it to be intimate — the kind of evening where you’d remember not just the taste of the food, but the story behind it too. Mahesh and I worked together on the menu, featuring some of his favorite dishes and a few surprises.

The event was priced to reflect the incredible value of the experience, and we set a cap on the number of tickets to make sure the vibe stayed personal and conversational. I took on the marketing, pouring my heart into promoting the event across Eating Out Austin’s Instagram and making sure every detail felt just right.

I had sold my 40 tickets & theoretically: the hardest part was over. Although, as someone who just sold a feeling, I knew I had a lot to deliver on.

As people started arriving, I could feel the magic setting in. There was something about the energy in the room — everyone was excited, curious, and ready to dive in. Mahesh and his gorgeous, amazing wife/head chef/co-owner Annu explained each dish’s history, and shared general stories about life. It was more than just a tasting menu; it was a connection between the chef, the food, the space, and the people enjoying it.

We even had some birthdays, and Mahesh brought out the bottles to pop to ensure they had fun. By the end of the night, I knew we’d pulled off something truly special.

For a few hours, we were all a part of something bigger — a community united by a love for food, adventure, and connection: I knew this was The Eating Out Austin Experience I had been dreaming of.

Baby Steps to Big Dreams: What’s Next for Eating Out Austin?

Since that night at Nasha, we’ve hosted another 15 weeks of Supper Club and 2 more events.

I’m still taking things step-by-step, but the vision has grown. I see Eating Out Austin becoming a platform for more experiences like “Dish & Dish,” where the focus is on creativity, storytelling, and making incredible memories.

The dream is to collaborate more with restaurants, to bring these unique concepts to life, and to keep building this community of adventurous eaters.

I’m cooking up a few more ideas, and I can’t wait to share them with you all soon.

Stay tuned!
